Kenny had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Hardly a day went by that he did not take a morning walk.
Having a long history in politics, he served first on the Bardstown Board of Education and then 17 years as a Kentucky State Representative before being appointed Kentucky State Park Commissioner in 1997. It was his idea to develop the brochure.
