Columbus, KY Columbus-Belmont State Park is 15 miles south at KY-58 & KY-123/80. This is the site of a massive chain and anchor used to block the passage of Union gunboats during the Civil War. There is also a Confederate cannon and a network of earthen trenches. Museum ($.50, May-LD daily 9-5, April & LD-Oct Sat-Sun), mini-golf, hiking, year-round camping, (270)677-2327, museum is handicapped accessible.  A self-guided walking tour is featured, and can be obtained at the park visitor's center.
Civil War Days are held each year during the second week of October.  The 1998 activities, held October 9-11, will include Civil War camps, guided walking tours, first-person impersonations, nighttime cannon volleys off the river bluff, and a Civil War skirmish.  For more information, call  (270)677-2327.
