A note to teachers: Visiting the Civil War monuments in your community is a wonderful tool for introducing and expanding your studies of the Civil War. Because some of these monuments are located in cemeteries, however, please be certain to call the cemetery office before planning any visit there. Some cemeteries may not allow school group visits, but may allow you or a student and his/her family to visit to respectfully photograph the monument and its surroundings. Always seek permission first. The photographs may serve as a substitute for an actual visit to the site.
