In the early 1900s, eastern Kentucky was lacking in educational opportunities when Alice Lloyd moved from Boston to Ivis, Kentucky. She saw the need for regional uplift and felt that through education, the Appalachian people could have a brighter future. Through vision and hard work, a school was begun which later became known as Alice Lloyd College.
