Rock Climbing

#9 Rockcastle Cliffs

Perhaps because of the overwhelming draw to Red River Gorge, these cliffs have been overlooked for climbing potential. Our exploration indicates enough rock for one or two hundred routes, sport and trad, of all grades. Someone needs to spend a week there and develop the place. These cliffs can be found in the Daniel Boone National Forest, just east of the Laurel Co./Pulaski Co. border north of Hwy 80.

NOTES: Undeveloped, with potential for 100-150 routes, sport/trace/toprope; there is quite a bit of exposed, south-facing, overhanging sandstone, probably at least 150' tall. Keep clicking here as we are exploring and updating.

Easy camping and easy road access. If you have specific information on this area, please contact us. Camping is free although no established sites exist. No parking except on should of the highway. Remember, this is a heavily traveled road.

Directions: From London (exit 41 on I-75), head west on Hwy 80 for about 8 miles. Keep your eyes right until the cliffs come into view. Park along the shoulder (lock your car) and bushpush to the cliffs.

Close cities/towns: London (10 miles east), Somerset (15 miles west)
