It passes by some of the best recreational areas in the eastern United States.

Start at the Mississippi River near Columbus Belmont State park. The park is rich in Civil War history. Don't miss.
Land Between the Lakes is an outdoor playground with unlimited fun. LBL is a 40 mile peninsula between lakes Kentucky and Barkley. Has 300 miles of shoreline. A visitor center and planetarium can be found at Golden Pond.
Barren River Lake State Resort Park is located on rolling, tree-covered hills. The lodge and cabins curve around this beautiful waterway.
Dale Hollow Lake twists and turns through the Cumberland foothills. Known for the great fishing and boating found here.
The Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area is a wilderness paradise. Don't miss the scenic train ride to the Blue Heron Mining Community. Wind your way through the rugged beauty of the Daniel Boone National Forest over country once explored by Daniel Boone himself.
Cumberland Falls is a magical spot. It is home to one of the most impressive waterfalls east of the Rockies except for Niagara. Watch for the mystical moonbow found only here.
Pine Mountain State Resort Park offers lodge and cabin accommodations for a great place to relax and take in the lush mountain scenery.
Stop at the Cumberland Gap National Historic Site before you leave Kentucky into Virginia. This is a natural passage from the Appalachian Mountains used by early colonists to move west.
