Big Ugly WMA (6,421 acres). Located 25 miles south of Hamlin off state Route 7. The terrain is steep. A mature upland hardwood forest blankets more than 95 percent of the area. Big Ugly is managed primarily for deer, squirrel, turkey, grouse and raccoon. The area features a 100-yard shooting range.
Hilbert WMA (289 acres). The area is located approximately two miles northwest of Sod. The terrain is steep and over 95 percent is covered by oak-hickory forest. Hunting prospects include deer, turkey, squirrel, grouse and fox. No camping is allowed and fishing facilities do not exist on the area.
Upper Mud River WMA & Lake (1,425 acres). The area is located approximately 12 miles south of Hamlin on county Route 7 (Upper Mud River Road). The terrain is steep and 90 percent is covered by oak-hickory forest, with hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, raccoon, grouse, squirrel, rabbit and waterfowl. The major fish species in the 306-acre lake are muskellunge, largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and channel catfish. Two boat launch ramps are situated on the area and boat motors are limited to 10 horsepower. No camping is allowed.

Lock 4 of the Coal River Little Coal River off of St. Rt. 214
The only remaining lock on this once busy commercial channel. Lock 4 is the site of the infamous murder of Mary Turley, by her husband Preston Turley in 1859. Mary's body was sunk at Lock 4. Preston Turley was later hanged by officials for the murder after he gave his own 45-minute eulogy from the gallows.
Stone Buildings of Lincoln County At least 3 small towns boast stone buildings built around the turn of the 20th century by it's Italian immigrants. (St. Rt. 214 and 10)
Disputed Burial Site of Jesse James Local legend has it that the notorious outlaw Jesse James returned to his anut's home near Midway to live out his remaining days. He lived and died under the pseudonym Charles Smith. He is buried at a nearby cemetery. He and is brother Frank robbed the St. Albans bank in the late 1800s. The original bank vault with bullet holes is still in place. (St. Rt. 214)
Cobb's Creek Miracle Citizens of many communities in pre-Civil War western Virginia were divided between loyalty to Virginia and loyalty to the Union. Of the 15 men of Cobb's Creek who opted to go to war, all but one joined the Union Forces. The miracle - all returned home safely. (St. Rt. 214)
Branchland Location of the first coal mining cam town in the Guyandotte River Valley. Coal mines were in operation here as early as the 1880s. Some of the original coal camp housing can be seen on the first half mile of the Four Mile Road. There are also two suspension bridges along WV 10 that were in operation until the 1980s. (St. Rt. 10)

Hsitoric Tobacco Barn Driving Tour US 119 take the Alum Creek/WV 214 Exit. Follow 214 to Yawkey and proceed on WV 3 to Hamlin. There are at least 15 examples of tobacco barns, many still in use. Includes the rare red Mail Pouch Barn on WV 214 at Yawkey.
