John Flannagan Dam & Reservoir - The reservoir provides flood control, low-flow augmentation, fish and wildlife enhancement, water supply and recreation, including: picnicking, camping, swimming, fishing motor boating, water-skiing, marina, launch ramps, hiking, hunting, whitewater rafting and a visitor center.
Big Stone Gap - the Trans-America Bike Route follows Rt. 80 through Dickenson and Russell counties.

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park - There are numerous scenic and historic features in the park and ranger led programs are offered throughout the year including tours of Gap Cave and the historic Hensley Settlement.
Wilderness Road Trail in Wilderness Road State Park is a 10-mile biking, hiking and equestrian trail. Bikers give way to hikers and hikers give way to horses.
Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail is one of the nation's most historic routes and was the route for setters of the western frontier.

RUSSELL
Sugar Hill Loop Trail is an excellent biking challenge for five miles.
Big Stone Gap - the Trans-America Bike Route follows Rt. 80 through Dickenson and Russell counties.
TAZEWELL
Burke's Garden - The community can be viewed from the Appalachian Trail or by car from state route 623. Visitors can buy baked goods and vegetables, bike on area roads, hike and hunt in nearby Jefferson National Forest. First discovered in the 1740's by James Burke while hunting in the area.
Big Stone Gap - not exactly mountain biking, but biking in the mountains. The Heart ofAppalachia Bike Route and Scenic Drive begins from Burke's Garden in Tazewell County to the Guest River Gorge in Wise County. 128 miles of breathtaking scenery! This trail travels 128 miles. 44 miles of side trails provide access to spectacular natural features such as Russell Creek Falls and the Pinnacle at Big Cedar Falls.
WISE
Bullitt Park - The park includes a football field, tennis courts, fitness and biking trails, large playground, picnic areas, pavilions and a track.
Guest River Gorge Trail in Jefferson National Forest is a Rails to Trails project that follows an old railroad right of way paralleling the Guest River.
Heart of Appalachia Bike Route & Scenic Drive - This 125 mile (with 40 miles of side trails) backroad and back country biking excursion. This route offers backroads, rails to trails, single track, historic sites, a natural preserve area, wilderness area, Amish general store, a pub, a swinging bridge, three scenic rivers, farms and coal country, and gorgeous views in Virginia's least crowded, friendliest region, the far southwestern counties of Tazewell, Bland, Russell, and Wise.
High Knob Observation Tower & Recreation Area - Two trails are marked with yellow paint at the tower entrance. A 1.3 mile trail leads to High Knob Lake at the Recreation Area. Or for the more adventuresome, a 19.2 mile trail leads Hanging Rock Recreational area on the Mountain Fork Trail.
North Fork of Pound Reservoir - Cane Patch campground is the center of the recreation activity on the lake. It has 33 camping sites with restrooms, showers and playground equipment. The Laurel Fork campgrounds provide a more primitive atmosphere for campers and is only accessible by boat. 154 acre lake is used for fishing, boating, camping, picnicing, hiking, and municipal water supply.
