Encompassing 125,000 acres of the Cumberland Plateau, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area protects the free-flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries. The Honey Creek Overlook offers an inspiring view into the rugged and scenic gorge of the Big South Fork. A wooden observation deck and paved access trail make this overlook accessible to all park visitors. From Oneida travel south on Hwy 27, follow the directional signs to the Burnt Mill Bridge and then continue an additional 4 miles.

Leatherwood Ford offers visitors an opportunity to experience the Big South Fork River. With ample parking, picnic and restrooms available, Leatherwood Ford offers paddlers and fisherman access to the river while giving hikers access to numerous trails along the river.

Bandy Creek Campground is located off Highway 297. The campground offers a total of 180 campsites, 100 trailer sites which offer water and electric hook-ups, 49 sites for tent camping, and two group campsites. All campsites include picnic tables, fire-rings, access to restrooms and showers and a dump station. The group campsites also have their own cook shelters and campfire circles.
Bandy Creek Campground is open year-round and operates on a reservation system from April 1 through October 31. Reservations may be made up to five months in advance by calling (800) 365-2267 - Code: 244 (BIG), or on-line by visiting http://reservations.nps.gov/index.cfm. Campsites are also available on a first-come/first-served basis throughout the year.

The arches are considered to be the largest arches in the Big South Fork and quite possibly in the Eastern United States. They may be reached by a number of routes, the shortest being a .7 mile hike from the Twin Arches Trailhead located off Hwy 154, by taking Divide Road and then following the signs to the Twin Arches Trailhead.

Museum was designed and developed along with the U.S.S. Tennessee Battleship Museum by students at the Scott County High School. The museums are managed by students and faculty. Covers prehistoric times, wars, logging industry, coal mining are a few of the charettes set up. In the back of the building is a barn, animals and a garden. Includes displays, memorabilia from the ship, the war and numerous other items pertaining to the history of the Tennessee. The Tennessee was a war ship built in 1917 and decommissioned in 1946. Burnt Mill Bridge offers paddlers access to some of the wildest and most remote whitewater in the eastern United States. This eleven mile run on the Clear Fork River and the Big South Fork River contains numerous Class III and IV rapids before reaching Leatherwood Ford and should only be attempted by skilled whitewater paddlers.

If passing through Oneida on Hwy 27 look for the FREE Shoes sign in front of Woods Shoe Shop. Found a good way to provide shoes for the needy. The fence has over 300 pairs of shoes and many more leather shoes on the front porch of the shoe shop. During the winter months in the old downtown, we hang coats on the door handle of the Main Street warehouse. People come by, try on a coat and take it home if needed. Both the free shoe fence and the free coat door are open 24/7.
