The second and present Trimble County courthouse was built in 1884. The architects, H.P. McDonald & Brothers of Louisville, provided the design for the structure. An Indiana builder, B.F. Trester Jr., contracted the building of the courthouse for $13,000. In March of 1952 a fire gutted the building and destroyed the second floor. Carl D. Russell of Louisville redesigned the structure using the walls of the first floor. The building still retains much of the original style.
