The present Nelson County courthouse was built in 1891-92. Mason Maury and William J. Todd architects of Louisville designed the structure. The contractor was Edward Baker Smith and the building was completed at a cost of $33,000. The structure was of Richardsonian Romanesque style and was constructed with stone and brick with wood framing. In the 1960’s the building was remodeled. The courthouse has served Nelson County for over 110 years.
