The fourth and current Lewis County courthouse was completed in 1940. The funding for the building came from a grant from the Public Works Administration. The new courthouse was modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The stone used in construction was quarried a few miles from Vanceburg. The final cost of the project was $98,277.
