The second and current Franklin County courthouse was completed in 1835. Architect Gideon Shryock designed the building with a Greek Revival style.
The building was completed at a cost of $12,500. In 1909, the courthouse underwent a major renovation. The courtroom was moved from the first to the second floor and the rear of the building was expanded thirty feet. Two other renovations took place in 1927 and 1949.
