This courthouse, which was designed by J.K. Frick, an architect from Illinois, has served the county for around one hundred thirty-four years. The design for the building is Greek Revival style with Italianate details and was completed for just under $100,000. The original hexagonal cupola was replaced by a brick one in 1903. In 1960 it was then removed due to its condition and the weight it added to the roof structure.
