Built in 1907 the second and current Carter County courthouse has served the community for about ninety-six years. This courthouse was built to replace the old one, which was considered old and dilapidated. The new structure is of a Breaux-arts design and is a two-story structure constructed with yellow bricks. Also, the building boasts hexagonal towers at the corners of the building that provided valuable space. In 1950 and 1964 the west and east wings were added to the building.
