The courthouse is of Classical Revival style and constructed of buff colored brick with some stone details. All four sides of the building have a tree-story portico supported by Ionic columns. After the old courthouse burned in 1906, bond issue votes failed twice to construct a new courthouse. The third vote was held in November of 1912 and again did not receive enough votes for the construction of a new courthouse. That night the votes were left in the county clerks office and a supporter of the new building slipped in and altered the votes. The next morning a recount was demanded and the new courthouse was approved. The builders of the new structure were the Falls Construction Company of Louisville and it was completed in two hundred days at a cost of $49,679.
