The present and third Butler County courthouse was dedicated in October of 1975. It was built to replace the old structure, which was built after its predecessor was destroyed by fire in 1872, and it served as the county courthouse for over one hundred years. The new building was constructed under the administration of Judge Robert Lamastus and is of colonial design.
