The bricks used in the courthouse were from a nearby farm called Orchard Hill Farm and the total cost for the project was $20,000. The current courthouse replaced an 1817 brick courthouse that later burned and a log structure that served as the county courthouse as early as 1799. One of the most memorable events to take place at the Boone County Courthouse was the Geiger Murder Trial during the mid-1940. Mr. Geiger, a Covington City Commissioner, was found murdered with his wife in their bed. Their daughter was tried in Boone County but was acquitted.
