2010 Elk Expo & Sportsmen's Show at the Knott County Sportsplex
August 27-28, 2010
450 Kenny Champion Loop, Soft Shell, KY 41831
The Knott County Fiscal Court & Tourism Commission in partnership with Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources and WMTH Corporation sponsored the 3rd Annual Elk Expo and Sportsmen's Show. The Show was held at the Knott County Sportsplex, just off Hwy 80, east of Hindman, Kentucky.

The Expo featured 40+ booths of outdoor sports-related vendors to include elk, turkey, and deer, educational activities, entertainment, raffles, door prizes and organized elk tours. Click here for photos from the event.

The show also included the Daniel Boone Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Annual Banquet.

New to the event this year - "Beast Feast", a sampling of wild game treats that was held on Friday evening and into Saturday. It was a huge success.

Everyone had a ton of fun trying out all the different types of wild game prepared by Chef Ashleigh Michaels from Atlanta and local Ken Amburgey (click here for more about the chef and recipes from the event). The game ranged from antelope, wild boar, venison, bear & elk plus. Big thanks to the Chef Ashleigh and Ken.

Elk Tours were once again a big success with tours being held on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Trinity Shepherd from Jenny Wiley State Park was the tour guide. Everyone was thrilled to see lots of elk. Our thanks to Trinity for the success of this event.
The expo was open to the public on Friday from 4 pm to
9 pm and Saturday from 8 am - 7 pm.

An elk tag was auctioned off during the Elk Expo on Saturday. The tag is good for units/areas 1-4 and was donated by ICG Properties. Click here for the
ICG Hunter Access Agreement & Map information that will benefit the lucky winner.

Lodging available by clicking here. We arranged with America's Best Value Inn & Hampton Inn in Hazard for a special discount for Elk Expo vendors & participants, click here for details. Most of the hotels in the area were almost completely booked.

There was a special invitation to all 800 lucky elk hunters who had been selected in this year's state drawing and to all the Kentucky elk hunters, past and present, to attend this event. And attend they did - 78 of the 800 elk hunters chosen this year attended the event! Click here for some photos of those we captured on camera.

Many of the new elk hunters were able to meet their guides or other hunters and gain valuable information for their hunts by attending the expo.

For the FIRST TIME, a competition for taxidermists was held and the Best of Show went to Gary Hylton, Owner of Hylton's Taxidermy from Louisa Kentucky.
