ELK EXPO & SPORTSMENS SHOW Immediate Release: July 19, 2010
The Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources, Knott County Fiscal Court and Knott County Tourism Commission will be the hosts again for the 3rd Annual Kentucky Elk Expo and Sportsmen's Show. Partnering with us this year will be representatives from both Perry and Floyd counties working together to make the event bigger and better than ever. The dates are Friday August 27 and Saturday August 28th.
New this year is the "Beast Feast" on Friday evening where we have a chef cooking up wild game for everyone to sample. Already we know we will be serving both antelope and wild boar. Looking for other kinds of meat such as squirrel, deer, elk, bear, all kinds of fish, quail, and even possum, ground hog, alligator, turtle or whatever you might be willing to donate. Chef says he can cook anything we give him and I would love to challenge him with that. We have three large freezers where we can keep the meat frozen. Just let us know what you might have.
Just a $5 dollar entrance fee gets you in to the Beast Feast Friday night and to visit all the displays set up both Friday from 4pm until 9pm and Saturday from 8am to 10pm. The event includes antler scoring, elk calling, ATV Safety demonstrations, educational offerings, raffles, guest speakers, live and silent auctions, exhibits, vendors plus much more. Elk Tours will also be available.
Also new this year will be an archery target shoot Saturday with McKenzie targets and prizes hosted by Kentucky Antler Company. And Saturday evening, the Daniel Boone Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will be hosting an RMEF banquet with raffles plus live and silent auctions which will also be held at the Knott County Sportsplex.
We are looking for volunteers to help get donations, wild game for Beast Feast night, help with the archery and RMEF banquet Saturday night , and others to help set up, break down and work the event.
