Construction of the second and present Metcalfe County courthouse was completed in 1869. The new courthouse was constructed to replace the old one, which was set on fire by Confederate guerillas in 1865. The architect for the new courthouse was H. P. Bradshaw of Louisville. The contract was awarded to Henry Perry in 1868 at a cost of $9,550. The courthouse under went renovations in 1967, which included new front steps.
