The third and present Mercer County courthouse was completed in 1913. After considering plans by many different firms the Falls City Construction Company was selected and were also awarded the contract for construction. There was a fire in the courthouse in 1928 and Churchill & Gillig of Lexington was in charge of renovating the building. The only difference aesthetically is the replacement of the original cupola.
