Located near Campbellsville on a bend of the Green River is the Tebbs Bend Battlefield. On July 4, 1863, a small detachment (200-300 men) of the 25th Michigan Infantry defeated Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan's column of some 2500 troops. The battle was an early omen of the disaster that would follow Morgan on the Great Indiana and Ohio Raid--he would be captured less than a month later in Ohio. A self-guided driving tour of the battlefield is available at the Jacob Hiestand Stone House, which serves as the Campbellsville-Taylor County/Green River Lake Area tourist information center in Campbellsville.
